Dead Inside but Still Alive: Living One Sarcastic Breath at a Time

Let me get this started off on the right foot…

You are not a coward, a bitch, a faggot,  you are weak, you are not seeking attention by getting mental help.

Therapy is a lifeline for many of us. It requires work, though. You can’t just go there every week, every two weeks, and not do the work in the off time and expect improvement.

You also can’t point fingers at everyone else. The tired old “my mom didn’t love me” is no longer an excuse. If you’re an adult, so something about it.

I have been in counseling for almost 17 years for PTSD and a few other diagnosis that quite frankly most of you aren’t familiar enough with me to worry about them.

I have had my issues finding someone i not only melded with but someone I could feel safe in my emotions with.

Therapists, LCSW’s, nurse practitioners, and psychologists… I’ve run through them all. A lot just weren’t good fits. They seemed to have their own agenda. My last therapist would constantly choose to bring up alcoholism when I rarely ever touched alcohol. In another instance, she accused me of “making something up” because she heard something similar but completely unrelated to what I was speaking about from another client. I had to provide her with proof of my accomplishment.

That woman was a cancer. She is what is wrong with therapy. I won’t even tell you how many additional times she got my case history confused with who knows what other client.

Do your research. Find someone you feel comfortable with. Don’t let the clock run out.
